Rationale for Cooperation.

History is testament to the fact that human beings have an innate attitude to to have dominating role in terms of hierarchy and this ever increasing urge to gather maximum power and influence over others has resulted in numerous conflicts. To reduce or eliminate instances like this among different nations, leaders of these nations through the course of history have made security cooperation with other countries having same interests or those countries whom they think have enemies in common.

There is a dilemma which this cooperation poses to the security in an overall picture. if we look into the past we can easily observe that these cooperation have not resulted according to the expectations or these security cooperation have been abused to extract undue advantages ( e.g. US-Iraq war ) and this has in turn resulted in the formation of such alliances or cooperation that have doomed the dream of a peaceful world e.g. formation of terrorist groups like ISIS or Al-Qaeda.

John H. Herz uses an approach of 'realistic liberalism'. According to me this is the best approach to explain the formation of security cooperation. the reason for this opinion is that ties between countries may result in some unwanted formation at the other end but it adds on to the overall peace of the world which is the ultimate goal of these countries. but one must keep in mind that such kind of alliances should not be made to maximize any type of military might but should be made on the principles of  liberalism, democracy and socialism.

  1. The security dilemma is vexing, but I agree that we should ideally be working towards promoting the principles of liberalism and democracy.
