For all replies, label your reply with the upcoming class session. So for your first reply, it should be labeled "Session 3 - x y z".
When you reply to a fellow student, there is no minimum or maximum reply word requirement. While I don't want to see two-word replies like "Good job!", it's up to you how much you want to engage with the person's piece. The original author can choose to respond to your comment or not.
The bottom line is that you're taking part in a conversation. Make the conversation as thoughtful as you can.
