Sression 14: 16th December 2014

16th December 2014. I guess we have all forgotten this date, but will those parents who lost their children ever forget it ? On 16th December 2014, the worst tragedy in the history of Pakistan took place when seven gunmen affiliated with TTP conducted a terrorist attack on Army Public School in Peshawar, killing 145 people, including 132 children. It was the darkest day in the history of this country.

No matter what complicacies and debates, the killing of children can never be accepted, no matter what the reason. The TTP declared it as Islamic where as Islam's fundamental war principle strictly gives the instruction not to harm children, woman, elderly and even the non-combatent men. This massacre was anything but Islam. It was infact an effort to destroy the image of Islam and was an attack not just on Pakistan but on the entire humanity.

Why did theis attack happen ? What prompted those evils to kill innocent children ? A rumor is that they were killed because they wanted to get education, no that is not true. The real reason is, there is currently an operation going on in Waziristan called "Zarb-e-Azb". This operation is against Talibans. The Peshawar attack was a result of this operation, a backfire by Taliban. We are fighting the worlds fight alone, we are bearing consequences of that fight. We are burned, killed and injured. Our souls have been destroyed, and yet when a Pakistani travels anywhere in the world, he is categorized as a terrorist, even though he himself is suffering from terrorism. This is not just our fight, we are fighting on behalf of the whole world but we are not understood.

  1. I definitely agree with all what you've said. but, i want to say that this is our war and we should not expect people from other countries to respect us, because we our self ignited this war. Old sins have long shadows my friend.

  2. I agree with you Nauman. This war is something which has tarnished the reputation and image of our country in the international arena. But more than being worried about our image, I think we should focus on making our country a safe place to live in first.

  3. The worst tragedy in the history of Pakistan? That is a pretty bold statement, particularly considering the litany of tragedies that have occurred (partition, wars with India, the separation of Bangladesh, etc.). That being said, I agree that Pakistan is fighting on behalf of the world against terrorism, but this is primarily our fight to wage. We are fighting against a deep seated evil that will not go away as long as its pernicious ideology is not combated. But how to combat this pernicious ideology? That remains the question of the day.
